  • It is recommended to clean the activated carbon filter(s) daily.
  • Replace the activated carbon filter regularly (biweekly or monthly depends on your usage).
  • The inner filters are designed for only two or three uses and should be disposed of afterwards.

To access and clean the filters, bend the flexible metal stand backwards so that lamp faces up towards the ceiling. Open the filter housing by turning it counterclockwise. Carefully take out the filters and clean with a regular vacuum or tap the debris outside into the trash.

An Aerovex Systems Sunflower II LED Nail Dust Collector is shown disassembled, revealing a white filter and cylindrical cage. Purple text reads, "Easy filter access for cleaning & replacement," with three color circles at the bottom left. Read more at Aerovex Systems (aerovexsystems.com)

Each Sunflower II LED comes with one Type 1 filter and one Type 3 filter, so you can decide which works best for your services.

  • Type 1 Original Filter
Best for gel polish services and light filing. Captures fine dust and helps reduce odor, but may experience surface buildup or blow-back with heavier or sticky enhancements.
  • Type 3 High-Airflow Filter
Best for acrylic, builder gel, hard gel, dip, and heavy e-file use. Allows significantly more airflow for stronger suction and reduced dust blow-back.
  • Inner High-Flow Filter Ultra-high airflow filter that supports maximum suction. Can be used alone for fast particle pass-through or paired with an outer filter for longer filter life. Requires more frequent replacement when used by itself.

After each customer, with the fan motor still on, use a soft brush on the lightbulb so the fan sucks the dust into the Sunflower II. When cleaning or changing the filters, open the lamp holder by turning it counterclockwise and clean the back side of the lightbulb with a soft brush over a trash can.

Acrylic dust particles can be too large and thick to be fully extracted by the Sunflower II. Sticky gel powder or gel polish, can quickly clog filters and potentially damage the fan motor. To help maintain the activated carbon main filter, Sunflower Inner Filters can be used in conjunction with outer filters or alone to allow larger dust particles to pass through. Inner filters can be used and discarded after each use. Note: The Sunflower system is most effective with gel nail applications.

You can also try the Type 3 filters. They are best for acrylic, builder gel, hard gel, dip, and heavy e-file use, and allows significantly more airflow for stronger suction and reduced dust blow-back.

The Sunflower II removes and captures fine airborne particles, improving salon air quality while protecting your breathing zone from harmful chemical fumes and dust inhalation exposure. Some heavy dust will fall that cannot be captured by the Sunflower II.

If dust is being expelled from the bottom, it indicates insufficient airflow through the filters. Insufficient airflow may be caused by either clogged or dense filters, or a weak fan motor. In most cases (approximately 98%), the issue arises from clogged filters.

  • To diagnose the issue, remove the filter(s) and observe if air exits from the top of the Sunflower unit. If air is coming out the top and there seems to be sufficient flow, clean or replace the filters and try again. The Sunflower II activated carbon filter should be cleaned every day and replaced every 2 months at least. The Inner Filters should be replaced after 2 or 3 uses.
  • Suction power depends on filter thickness and various ingredients. Airflow is blocked by thick filters. If you are still experiencing issues, remove the activated carbon filter and use the inner filter alone for better air passage.
  • Positioning also affects the suction power. The head of the Sunflower II should be positioned vertical rather than sideways or at an angle (shown in the pictures below)
A silver Sunflower II Nail Dust Collector system with a flexible neck is positioned on a surface, angled slightly downward and out. Purple arrows are pointing into the lamp, indicating the flow or direction of the airflow. This is an example of how not to position the Sunflower II. The lamp has a cylindrical design with vent-like openings. Read more at Aerovex Systems (aerovexsystems.com)
❌ Improper positioning of the Sunflower II

YES! In fact, it is simple, and there is no installation required. Simply take the air purifier out of the box, removing the shipping brace, plug it in the electrical outlet and it is ready to use! Check out this quick video:

A cylindrical air purifier sits on a hardwood floor in a modern salon. Text reads, "THE ONE THAT WORKS With PCO technology." In the background, a "readers' choice awards WINNER" badge is on the wall. The aerovex systems logo is at the bottom right. Read more at Aerovex Systems (aerovexsystems.com)

No. The unique “fountain airflow” sends the clean air towards the ceiling, and will not change the temperature of the salon air.

By determining the appropriate model for your salon, usually one unit is all that is required. For large salons with high ceilings and high levels of pollution, more than one unit may be required to maintain fresh air throughout the salon. Call us today for your free consultation 1-608-535-6239.

YES! “The One That Works™” is the only air purifier designed specifically for nail salons. Our consultation will result in a recommendation for the appropriate model for your salon. When your customers walk into your salon there will be no appreciable difference between the fresh air outside and the fresh air inside your salon.

The Salon chemical vapors are heavier than air and tend to migrate towards the floor. That is why the purifier should be placed on the floor, in the center of the Salon. Or, up against the wall towards the center of the Salon. Do NOT place the purifier in the corner of the room.

Very. The High Speed uses 135 Watts, and the Low Speed uses 90 Watts. The filter is washable and reusable, so there is only the Activated Carbon to replace every 4 – 6 months!

We recommend changing the carbon every 4 or 6 months to ensure optimal performance. If you have 3 nail technicians or under, and are not operating more than 8 hours a day, then you will need to change the carbon around every 6 months. If you have 3 or more nail tech’s and operate more than 8 hours a day, then we recommend you replace the carbon every 4 months.

No, the air purifier is only 15” tall and has a 16.5” diameter. It is also very easy to move around with the 3-wheel mobile cart available.

No, the outside dust filter is machine washable. Wash the dust filter approximately every 2 weeks or once per month. There are no filters or cartridges inside the unit to replace. Simply change the Activated Carbon at every 4 or 6 months (approximately 43 cents per day).

The room purifier has two speeds. The Low speed is very quiet, and is the standard setting. The High speed is louder and used for emergencies such as chemical spills and is used to clean the air quickly. On high speed the purifier sounds like an average residential fan.

We also offer source capture ventilation units which capture salon dusts and chemicals vapors at the technicians breathing zone. In addition, we have special filters for your HVAC system which remove salon dusts and chemical vapors from salon’s HVAC systems. Learn all about our 3-Zone Protection Basics to understand the different areas that should be considered when creating a healthy, fresh-air environment for you and your clients.

Original Chemical Source Capture System™

Aerovex Systems is a leading authority on minimizing formaldehyde exposure during keratin hair smoothing services. We developed our Original Chemical Source Capture System™ specifically to protect the breathing zone of stylists and clients during keratin hair smoothing services, and to prevent overexposure to formaldehyde vapors and fumes. In addition to proper ventilation, our consultation will provide you with FACTS on where and how the spikes in formaldehyde exposure occur, and teach you important techniques developed to prevent inhalation exposure.

We recommend changing the filters on a schedule every 4 or 6 months. Aerovex Systems recommends its Subscribe & Save program to schedule your filter shipments & changes. Typically, the filters should be changed after 120 hours of use. As a back up to remind you when its time to change the filters, our Original Chemical Source Capture System™ is equipped with an electronic control panel featuring our exclusive filter change indicator which will alert you to change the filters when necessary. We have taken the guess work out of the appropriate filter changing frequency, rather than waiting for the performance of the unit to diminish, like some manufacturers recommend to determine when to change the filters.

The Aerovex Original Chemical Source Capture System™ is built from the ground up specifically for hair stylists. Other manufacturers units were originally designed for welding, soldering or other industrial applications, and have not taken into consideration the unique design feature requirements of hair stylists. We have sound levels below conversational speech, easy filter changing which eliminates unit dis-assembly and avoids messy carbon module emptying & re-filling, an electronic control panel featuring a filter change indicator, clear capture hood with LED lighting, more suction (CFM) than any other salon source capture system.

Aerovex Systems recommends taking a comprehensive “Three Zone Protection” approach towards proper keratin hair smoothing, and other hair chemical service salon ventilation. This includes use of our “The One That Works™” salon room air purifier designed specifically to remove salon vapors/fumes/odors, including formaldehyde, not captured by the chemical source capture system, and replenishing the salon with a “fountain flow” of fresh air. We also recommend use of our “Dust Plus” HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) filters designed to specifically trap salon vapors/odors and dust, preventing them from entering the cold air returns and recirculating throughout the salon.

It’s quite simple, and will take approx. 10 minutes to assemble. Easy to follow assembly instructions including a video are provided.

The hood should be position within 1 ft. of the clients head during all three keratin hair smoothing sequences, including product application, blow drying and flat ironing.

Yes, the Original CSCS is designed to be used with one client. Multiple keratin smoothing treatments can be provided safely at the same time if each stylist is properly using an Original CSCS.

Yes, we’ve designed the unit to all simple filter changing. No unit disassembly or messy carbon module refilling is necessary. Stylists love our easy plug & play filter changing method.

Our Filter Change Subscribe & Save plan price for change of the unit’s three filters is $185.

The Original CSCS is available both in black and white

Yes! Minimize chemical inhalation during all hair chemical services including color, bleach, permanent waves, hair removal, and even hair spray.

Aerovex Systems “Three Zone Protection” approach to proper salon ventilation includes room air purification and proper HVAC filtration, in addition to source capture ventilation, ensuring the safety & comfort of your valued staff and clientele.

Whisper™ Salon Source Capture System

Click here to check out our entire Whisper™ Salon Source Capture System™ line and accessories.

We recommend changing the filters on a schedule every 4 or 6 months. Aerovex Systems recommends its Subscribe & Save plans to schedule your filter shipments & changes. Typically, the filters should be changed after 500 hours of use. As a back up to remind you when its time to change the filters, all Aerovex Whisper™ salon source capture systems are equipped with an electronic control panel featuring our exclusive filter change indicator which will alert you to change the filters when necessary. We have taken the guess work out of the appropriate filter changing frequency, rather than waiting for the performance of the unit to diminish, like some manufacturers recommend to determine when to change the filters.

Aerovex Whisper™ salon source capture systems are built from the ground up specifically for nail technicians. Other manufacturers units were originally designed for welding, soldering or other industrial applications, and have not taken into consideration the unique design feature requirements of the professional nail care industry. We have sound levels below conversational speech, easy filter changing which eliminates unit disassembly and avoids messy carbon module emptying & re-filling, wheels for easy maneuvering, and the electronic control panel features a filter change indicator.

Yes! The Whisper™ SSCS is also an excellent source capture system for Lash Studios and services.

The sound level is quiet and below conversational speech ( Low speed – 51 dBa, Medium speed – 53 dBa, High speed – 56 dBa). As a comparison, conversational speech is60 dBa. We have made the low sound level a priority in the design of our unit. Other manufacturer’s sound levels approach 60 dBa, and techs are then required to raise their voices to carry on a conversation with their client when using. There is no need to equip our unit with an exhaust silencer as some manufacturers resort to as a means to quiet down their units originally designed for other heavy industrial applications. Some manufacturers don’t provide you with their unit’s noise levels, or if they do, they only indicate levels when operating on low speed.

New building code regulations require source capture systems to be provided at each nail station to protect the breathing zone of the nail technician. This requirement must be met or the salon will not be allowed to open, per the International Building Code, (IMC 2024).

Yes! The Aerovex Whisper™ salon source capture system has both vent-to-outside models and recirculating (inside only) models, so you can pick the one that works best for your salon environment.
